Dear Julie,
My twins are turning 3 next month and I want to throw a fun birthday party for them. I just don't have any ideas on how to make it special and different from other ones they have been too. Do you have any fun suggestions for my boy and girl?

Dear Mother to Twins,
Wow, what a fun age! 3 year olds are learning to be more independent every day, so there are lot of fun birthday themes you could choose from. Since you have a boy and a girl coming up with a theme that would work for both will be a little tougher. Let's see what about one of these - Pirate/Princess, Carnival, Costume Party, Stuff your own Buddy, Mad Scientist, Disney Character, Chef party, What I want to be when I grow up....
Just add some fun activities to your party - do a kid's craft that they can take home, games with or without prizes (just make sure that everyone wins one especially for 2 and 3 year olds), rent a bouncy house, have them make their own mini pizzas for the snack, make a pinata, make sno-cones (just use an ice-crusher and buy sno-cone syrups at any party store).
For after-party thank you cards - take a picture of each child after your twins open their present. Put the 3 children together and the gift. It will save you so much time and take the guesswork out of who gave what as you can put a copy of the photo in each thank you card.
Remember to just have fun at the party with your kids. Don't stress out and not get to enjoy the time with them. I see moms all the time running around frantic. Let other moms or friends help you out if they offer.
They can help with:
- Serving the cake and ice-cream.
- Keeping the kids under supervision
- Collecting presents from guests and organizing the present "table" or designated location
- Taking pictures
Have fun! They only turn that age once and before you know it, they will be teenagers. No matter what, involve your twins in the decisions so they can help get them excited about the party. Have them practice writing their names on the thank you cards. Also, put yourself in their little shoes - would you have fun with all the choices that have been made so far?
