This look takes three plain-jane maternity basics--underbelly jeans, a tank, and an extra long ("boyfriend") cardigan--and transforms them, hot mama style, with Fall 2009's trendiest accessories.
Mix and Match scarves, headgear, and booties (also known as shoeties) are the key ingredients to add autumn spice to these basic outfits. These outfits prove that the neon and jewel tone colors that have been popping up on fashion radars everywhere this fall are, indeed, very wearable. All these accessories are very budget friendly--you can find a wide variety at discount retailers both on-and-off-line! Peep toe booties (or shoeties) are the ultimate runway-to-momway trend if you're still able to wear heels, but be sure to shop around for their low-heeled (usually close-toed) cousins if your balancing skills aren't up to the challenge of wearing heels.
I was inspired to create this hot mama style guide after peeking in my closet and discovering that I have a lot of basic tees, tanks, and jeans that needed some fresh, fashion-forward (but inexpensive) accessorizing. You'll notice that all of these ideas will work for a mama at any stage in their mommy journey--just swap out the maternity clothing with nursing or regular styles. Because I personally have an extremely small shopping budget, I've done my best to keep all items featured in the styled outfits within a reasonable price range (click on the picture to get a full list of items used).
So, take a look and get inspired, hot mamas! Don't be afraid to take a risk--it's as simple as digging into your closet. Send in your pictures of how you're remixing your jeans, tees/tanks, and cardigans into fun and stylish outfits that fit your personality (and your life!) for a chance to be featured in an upcoming Work It! Wednesday column. I can't wait to see what you come up with. :)

When she's not busy mismanaging Make Me a Hot Mama, Alison (AJae) twitters, writes for A is for Activist! | AlisonJerabek.Com, and plays mommy to an adorable little boy. In that order. (At least after said adorable boy is tucked into a snuggly bed. ;)
