Dear Julie,
Help! I am at a Stand Still with my business. The economy is taking a toll on it and I need help coming up with creative ways to overcome it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
~A Hot Mama at a Stand Still
-------------------------------
Dear Stand Still Hot Mama,
Yes, the economy has even made my rethink my initial business plan and goals. I've had to come up with some creative thinking outside of the box scenarios. The economy will turn around but it is a matter of when. Keep in mind - it won't happen overnight.
Here are some things to ponder:
- Can I turn another direction in my business?
Example - Have you thought about how you could do fundraisers? Right now many organizations are hurting economically too. How can you make your business appeal to them so they can sell your product while allowing you to still turn a profit and commiting the organization to a percentage of it. To me a sale is a sale. I may not make as much on the individual sale but in the whole package I make much more. I am happy to do fundraisers.
- Can I make my business interactive?
Example - How can you turn your business into something you can teach others how to do? Is there a way you can offer classes to different groups (parent/child, scout, school, nursing homes)? They would have to pay for the products but they get to put them together. In exchange they are creating something with their own hands along with spending time with people they enjoy being around.
- Hand out freebies
Example - Now it doesn't have to mean handing out your full products. It can be as simple as handing out little candybars with a sticker wrapped around the candy with your business name and information. Try making business cards and put a candy kiss on them. Everyone loves getting something for free.
- Gift Bags
Example - Make some up with general information and creative advertising ideas. Combine with other area businesses. Hand them out to area customers. They will be able to do some more shopping after they get home. Make magnetic business cards so they can put your ad on their refrigerator. Put in a coupon giving them 5% off or buy 2 get 1 free for new customers. Be Creative! Make your advertisement idea in the gift bag stand out.
- Home Shows
Example - Does your business have the ability to do at home party shows? If so, then check with other local home party show businesses and see if you can do exchanges. You have a party for them and they have one for you.
If you don't have a home business party option, then you may want to consider one to help get your name and products out there. Come up with a prize structure for the hostess. Come up with monthly specials for guest purchases. You can be as creative as you want.
There are so many ways to think outside of the box. Be creative! Let your mind dream! The possibilities are endless! You will overcome, after all you are a Hot Mama!
