Dear Julie - Spring Cleaning What Do I Keep?

Dear Julie,

I am wanting to clean out the closets from my first child. I think I should keep everything but my husband thinks I should sort it out and get rid of the too small things. I do hope to have another child some day but don't I foresee it for a few years. What do you think?

Dear Spring Cleaning Wanna Be,

I agree with both of you. First go through the clothes and pick out the ones that no longer fit your child. After you have that done. You can sort through them and pick the items that you really adore, you know the ones with that special memory. Now go back through the left over clothes and select the ones that are either unisex or ones in perfect condition that you think may still be in style in a few years. For the rest grab a box.

You need to start a box with the intention of donating to someone that you know could use the clothes or donate to a special organization or save for a garage sale. Now if you decide to have a garage sale here is something fun to try. Put a special character like a heart or circle on your price tag and as you are ringing up the sales keep track of those special sales. You can take that portion of the sales and place in a savings account to be used for your future child. Just think of the fun you will have shopping for your new little bundle of joy!

Even though my boys are now in their tweens. I still have special outfits that I save. For example, their basketball jersey, a favorite shirt that they outgrew and I hope to give them to them after they have kids. It will sure to bring smiles to their faces and stories to tell their own children.

Just think as long as you are Spring Cleaning keep going. My motto is, "If I haven't worn it or used in a year then I don't need it".
