Are You Making New Years Resolutions You Can Keep?

Have you made unattainable New Years' resolutions in the past, to only set yourself up for failure? I know I have. I have even tried to make realistic resolutions and still haven’t had the greatest success at them.

This year I chose to set a few goals with stepping stones. One that I set is always to lose weight even if it is 5 pounds. This year I will set it at I want to be more active every day. I will make small goals to go with it. Go for a walk either outside or on the treadmill. Eat a smaller portion at dinner – nothing bigger than my fist. Drink a glass of water before I grab a snack. Play more active games with my kids. None of that should be hard to meet that resolution. I have given myself more options to succeed than to fail.

I have other resolutions. I always set more than one. (I am a go-getter after all.) I want to help two of my boys’ with their own businesses. They are only 12 and 11 and they each have their own businesses. After asking myself what should I teach them this year, I made a list of easy attainable goals. Advertising – cost efficient ways to advertise. We will research and decide together. Marketing ideas – what creative ways can a tween use to their advantage? None of this seems hard and what could be a better resolution than to help someone else? It is easier to succeed your resolution if you are helping someone else. You really don’t want to let that person down.

Now I will set a resolution that may not be attainable, but is always something I have wanted to do. Now if one of my resolutions may fail, this one can and I can reset it for next year. If I do succeed with this one than good for me. I want to write a children's book. I already have the story line laid out but have never gone any further with it. So what am I waiting for. The time is right now. I don’t need the right person to push me. No I am the only one that can do it. So I will make it a resolution to get one step closer to that dream. One step at a time is an easy attainable goal. I can get one step closer that is for sure.

In one of my favorite Christmas Cartoon Shows they have a song with a line in it that “Even a Miracle needs a hand”. I never really thought about it before, but they are right. I can make my own miracle. I just have to choose to do it.

So, mamas, go ahead set a New Years resolution. What is stopping you? (Remember to make it a realistic resolution with baby steps built in.) You can do it! I have faith in you!

Wishing each of you a prosperous and healthy New Year!
